傅高义，1930年7月出生。哈佛大学费正清东亚中心前主任，社会学家，精通中文和日文，被认为是美国唯一位对中日两国事务都精通的学者，在哈佛大学享有“中国先生”的美称。他自20世纪60年代始，对我国广东社会经济情况进行考察和研究。撰有《共产主义下的广州：一个省会的规划与政治（1949—1968）》《先行一步：改革中的广东》等著作。傅高义教授目前列中国的研究主要集中在邓小平时代，是《邓小平震撼世界》的编者。傅高义教授还著有《日本的新中产阶级》《日本第一：对美国的启示》《日本仍是第一吗》等日本研究的书籍，被认为是当代美国日本研究的第一人。当20世纪80年代末中美关系处于艰难时期，傅高义教授认为中国的改革开放有利于美国的利益，有利于世界的和平与发展，敦促美国政府恢复和中国的往来。他对中国全面客观的分析有助于美国社会化解对中国的偏见和敌视态度。

海达.科瓦莉（1919-2010），捷克女作家、翻译家。生于布拉格一个犹太富商家庭，德国吞并捷克斯洛伐克后，她与父母和丈夫于1941年被驱至波兰，1944年再转奥斯威辛，父母死于毒气室。海达又被送往基督堡，受迫在军工厂和砖窑做苦工，1945年初，在被押往贝尔根-贝尔森集中营的途中脱逃。其回忆录最早以捷克语出版于1973年，1986年翻译修订后，以《悲星之下：布拉格生活，1941-1968》之名在美国重出，被誉为关于极权时代令人心碎的非凡记录。因为《悲星之下》而闻名于世的海达•科瓦莉于2010年12月5日在布拉格家中去世，享年91岁。
